Finally, I got my hands on the Ikea huset dolls house furniture set! yeah!

.. I had to go to the store to get it as it wasn't available to buy online from the Ikea site, and here it is :)

Well.....
About 5 weeks ago I saw a picture on Flickr of the new dolls house furniture by Ikea! it was a promotional picture.
I was pretty excited, although there was no information about its scale or size, I figured it might be a similar size to the furniture they have had in the past, or maybe even suitable for 1:12 scale!

Then I came across a very informative post by The Shopping Sherpa and I was crushed that it was in an odd scale, about 1:8 scale, but then again it might work with re-ment?!

The set was due to be released in august here in the UK, so I had to wait. I kept going back to the website for information and finally I couldn't take it anymore I had to have it  or at least some information on when it would be available, so I contacted Ikea on the 1st of august, and was told it was in store at my "not-so-local" Ikea,....grrr... with the promise of a family lunch at Ikea I dragged my family off to Ikea this morning and tada! I am now the excited owner of 2 sets of the Huset series :-) and as you do, I immediately tried out a scene with it ....

It comes as shown above in a white cardboard box and plastic covering...

it was quite easy getting it out of the box :-)

I used one set to make the scene below :-)

I placed a re-ment cafe chair in the scene, (the one on the left) for comparison :-)

on the expedit shelves are re-ment pieces on the left and 1:12 scale pieces on the right, and a sylvanian families toy shop house on top.

The larger doll is a 27cm yo-sd doll and the smaller one is 24cms and the furniture works better with her:-)

Reac...ting to the chair dilemma ^_^

Chairs, chairs, chairs......which one to use?

When I want to create a scene or work in my dolls house I might have an idea of what chairs I want to use or sometimes I have a colour scheme in mind, and that determines what chairs I use... there have been times where the room evolved from the chair rather than the other way around :-)

Sometimes I want to have certain chairs in a scene because I like them, but they don't work in the scene:(.
I have an office scene for which I bought 5 of the same chair in order to achieve uniformity, but I also have other chairs in it that don't match, and don't go together!... so I decided to call the scene "eclectic" :-)

I like contemporary design, and as an admirer and collector of doll house miniatures I have managed to acquire a small amount of chairs :) I have my favorites :) and some I would want to own in large scale, ;-) and also some that only work in my doll house scenes.

I have some, that none of my dolls can sit in, :-) but that's okay, I sometimes imagine me sitting in them :)

I have blogged in the past about finding designer chairs made by Reac. in Japan and since then I have collected the designs I like, and i still have my eyes on a few, but for now that will have to wait....

My confusion about what chair to use in what scene, might be resolved, by documenting what chairs are available to use. I have often wondered what it would be like to see how many I actually own and how many different types of chairs I have in my houses.

This might reveal a little bit about my personality or maybe just my buying habits ...:) or even my design philosophy when it comes to modern architecture..blah, blah, blah:-)

OR
could it just be a matter of "I see, I like, and I buy!" :-D

[When I started getting ready to do this post I realized that it was much harder than I imagined to photograph all my chairs, so I gave up and only photographed my reac chairs ;-)]

I went through the rooms in my houses and photographed the combination of chairs used in a room setting, instead of putting them all together and taking one big picture :)

The chairs above where also in a living room / gaming room scene

The chairs above where in an office scene

The chairs above where in a 2 scenes -bedroom room and hallway scene

The chairs above where in a 3 scenes - bedroom, living room  and nursery scenes

so many doubles hmmmm...........
:-)

They have all been taken out of my houses and placed in a 1:4 scale diorama for this post :) xx

Through the window

If I were a doll visiting a friend in a dolls house...(crazy way to start a sentence,  I know:-) but stay with me)...what would I do when I walk up to the door, knock... and there's no answer.  I turn to the side and there is a window and light flooding through ... do I peep in? Or simply turn around and come back later...hmmm

A new house or perhaps a bed instead?...

About a week ago, I bought a jukka -talo house/cabin. It was no 202 - the store. I was curious about it and did some research and you can find out more here and here, although the one I bought does not seem to be in production anymore :(

when I opened it and tried to build the model I realized 3 pieces were missing ....

rather than agonize over this I decided to use the pieces of this set for something else.
My first attempt at making a house out of the pieces was discarded as it would require too much work trying to fit walls and windows.

Then I tried a few more times and decided to go all out and alter its use completely, so a 1:6 scale bed seemed a great idea.:)

Using the same construction techniques for making the model, I fitted the short and long interlocking pieces together to create two sections that would form the base of the bed.

I then used the roof pieces as headboards and secured them to the base pieces with hot glue.

Then I secured the base pieces together to form the bed mainframe

For the mattress and baseboard I had to get creative so I used an old board game and cut the board to size and covered it with fabric as the baseboard, then I stuck down a large piece of cut'n'dry foam cut to size, as the mattress and covered it with the sea-green fabric as shown in the picture. I then hand-stitched  matching pillows and a bedspread:)

I really like how it turned out :-) though I must say my son wasn't very pleased! as he wanted to build a house with it, so after some convincing about the "superb indestructible" qualities of  Lego and how it is a "much superior" building material for houses!!!!! haha, everyone's happy. :)

Rose and Lily (Yosd- sized bjds) couldn't wait to try out the bed :-D
I also used 4 of the left-over pieces to make a side table ...:-)

New project? Or boredom :-)

In my last post, I talked about my search for a new project. One of the mini finds was a plastic fireplace from a broken playmobil toy house.

I decided to convert it to a "stone effect/ brick effect" fireplace for my house  :-)

After cleaning it, I primed the surface with mod podge, then I used a combination of distress ink pads and a permanent ink pad to stain it using a sponge.

Then I distressed it using my finger nails to scratch into it and voila ;-)
Hmmm...just have to find the best place for it :-) it turned out better than I expected!

Mini finds for my playroom, nursery, toy room....

I am fascinated with miniature toys especially ones that represented toys I played with or toys I currently play with :-)
If you look though my blog you'll know I love re-ment, so anything that is cute and looks realistic gets my attention.
I went in search of a new project last week, and I found the toys below,

some are dolls house furniture in 1:16 scale and work with my Lundby stuff,

others work as toys for my 1:6 scale dolls

Some of them had no markings, so I have no idea where they originally came from.

Some will find a new home in one of my houses :-)

Placing the shelving unit in waterside way house

My last post, was about making a shelving unit from a chocolate box.
I have placed the unit in my house, and am trying out different locations for it.
Well, considering my house is getting full of all the stuff...one collects ;-)... I need to think carefully about where I place it.....so for now it's in the living area, I'll probably move it.... :-)

Chocolate box shelf

What do you do with a Ferrero rocher chocolate box when the chocolates are long gone?....
I know, you make a shelving unit for your doll house :-)
Hot glue gun
acrylic pieces
A Lot of patience and then some ... equals a new storage space ;-)

Plastic play... 1/6 scale furniture

I have been playing with plastic styrene for a long time and you would think I would have finally figured out how to manipulate it properly... :)
I have all my tools or so I thought.
I was on YouTube watching an instructional video on how to stick different types of plastics when I realized what I had been doing wrong! I didn't have a syringe! I had been using a brush!

Being self taught, meant I researched a product, bought what i needed and followed the instructions on the bottle! isn't that what you are meant to do? haha, anyway back to the project at hand...

I have always made most of my furniture in 1/12 scale, but I decided to try making a cabinet to fit some re-ment stuff in my bakery, which is in 1/6 scale I used 3 a4 sheets of plastic styrene and several off-cuts as i wanted to have miss-matched shelves. The unit is the size of an a4 sheet!

From the pictures you can see where I spilled the adhesive :(, I will be buying a syringe for next time :D

The pictures below show my 1/6 scale doll in front of the unit and some re-ment pieces on the shelves

The shelves have been placed in the bakery
I haven't finalized the arrangement, but it goes nicely with the "American diner" style bar I made :)

I also made a cake display from a business card holder and some cross stitch pattern grids :) and the drinks display case on the bar... xx

I find it much easier building 1/12 scale

playing with ...suspension

changed things around ...and playing with suspension:-) mostly all handmade stuff

Blogging ?

Hmmm.... I have been blogging about miniatures, etc and my love for them, for a while now, sometimes I have been consistent with posts but more often than not, ...there have been wide and vast gaps between posts.

Recently, I had been pondering why I seem to have fallen out of love with blogging ...not just posting pictures, but photo stories and indepth posts, then I realized that it was because sometime last year there was a time when blogging  felt like another job as opposed to a fun activity which I enjoyed!
and why was that?
What had happened?
When did talking about something I enjoy become so tedious? Was I depressed.... Surely not! Maybe a bit tired.

Taking pictures and just talking about my interests should be easy, right?
but because I forgot the reason why I started this blog and got sidetracked by all the extra stuff around... I stopped enjoying it all and the fun got taken out of it :-(

However, today I made a decision to relax and enjoy my hobby and share. It has always been therapeutic, a form of escape and an expression of creativity, and a chance to use up all my crafty stash:-D

It is meant to be fun:-) ..
