Its the weekend!

What should I do?

mmm! I know I'll test a new lighting system in the waterside Way house :-)

I have always wanted to have spotlights in my house and I haven't been able to find a lighting system i liked, then i decided to look for a system i could create myself!

I wanted one that was battery operated as I'd recently moved the house to a different section of my living room.

I found car led lighting systems and Christmas tree lights, but couldn't find a bulb size i was comfortable with.

I went into a pound store, and I found their a set of snowflake lights and took it home took it apart and rearranged it and tada! i now have some kind of strip lighting....not sure if blue light is the new white...:)

the kitchen - a slice of the house

Wouldn't it be fun to take out a slice of a house and rearrange it and just slide it iin and it would fit perfectly with the rest of the house, it would be so much easier than having to move so many things around! ok I know it sounds crazy but bear with me.

I wanted to create a standalone scene, so I made this wooden backdrop and covered it in padded vinyl flooring using a tiled effect sheet, which I got from a flooring sample pack :)

The idea was to make a scene that could slide into my dolls house and I could remove it when I wanted a change :)

I used the Miele kitchen and appliances and re-ment, megahouse and dolls house emporium accessories

Haven't been able to blog normally on here for a while, as I had problems logging in :( so I have been posting from flickr! its been a bit inconvenient! but its sorted now (I hope) so this is my first proper blog in a while, and am so sorry I haven't been able to reply to comments.

I've done some redecoration in the attic of my Mayfair mansion :)

This is my black and white living room, my starting point was a piece of black pearlescent paper I found in a craft shop.

I decided to use just black and white furnishings for the room but couldn't resist using my re-ment sushi set! which is placed on a table I made, I also made the wooden wall clock which is pine-coloured. Under the clock is a fish tank I made, but I couldn't make a nice enough fish so I decided to put in a turtle I bought :) which was plan b :)

I also added an oriental inspired floor cushion which I bought on an auction site, but besides that I have tried to stay true to my black and white theme.

Kitty had had a long week dealing with deadlines, reports, essays and stuff! and to top it up when she got home last night from a friends dinner party, she got a call from Alex! he had missed his flight and so their date was off!... so she faced a weekend of remaining in her 'student digs'

................too upset to bother changing out of her party frock :) she put the phone down and cast a glance at the champagne and 2 glasses, she had brought out,....and went straight to bed! covering her shivering frame with her winter coat.......

I found this box at my local junk shop, but I wasn't sure what it was originally.

It had a rope/string at the top that was tied into the 2 holes and 2 opening doors as shown in the picture below.
I could immediately see some sort of outdoor eating/hangout place..

So I have done a little coffee hangout/shop.

Now that Christmas is over, Dinah has been doing a lot of baking preparing for the opening of her new shop! there's still a lot to do and Glori has promised to help so... it should be open soon ;-)

There's so much to do especially arranging the new cabinets and deciding where all the cakes Dinah made are going to be displayed! all the 3 new glass cabinets are full! what to do.....

Its been a crazy time for the last couple of months as typified by my scene of chaos :-)

These re-ment sweets as so delicious I decided to make a sweet and cake shop just to house them... this way I enjoy candy without the worrying ;-)

I always enjoy making office scenes, maybe its something to do with how I always seemed to visit the student office during my days in Uni, and how I spent most of my time in the faculty offices as a lecturer. There were always different scenes being played out, and every now and again, I find myself smiling at some distant, but interesting memory.
In one of the campuses, there was a computer lab that had an L-shaped research area. It was next to the printer area, and it always seemed to be empty, I remember wondering why the students never took advantage of this facility.
A couple of weeks ago, I went to my local library to use a reference book, and there was no where to sit, and suddenly I remembered this seating area and wondered if it was still empty….as I could definitely use a seat, right about now :-)
So, as you do, I went home and made a scene :-)
I used the ground floor of the waterside way house which was an art gallery! Only a few weeks ago, one of the things I love about this hobby, is that it allows me to indulge myself by being able to change the layout of a room whenever I want, no heavy lifting involved:-), I have tried doing it in my real home but its not fun to have to undo all your lovely work when everyone else keeps bumping into a sofa which was not there in the morning! Or tripping over the coffee table which you moved to make the room look nicer…..not everyone likes change :-)
Ok, I’m rambling….
I have made an office and reception area, with a number of different ideas and real inspirations put together, I have made some of the furniture and accessories myself and I am really enjoying experimenting with things. For those of us that love re-ment! Pls pls let me apologise in advance for what I have done :-)
I have a large cookie jar from the re-ment fun meals or mini-sweets set, that was too big for my 1/12th kitchen and I decided to use it to make a water-cooler for the reception area of the office. I used 2 wooden crates and covered them in adhesive foil and made a hole in the top for the cookie jar’s cover, I then attached a jewellery finding to it, to make the spout, and for the water….the cookie jar is still intact :-)
I also made the counter/desk for the reception area, the drawing table, the black and white shelving units next to it, and I also made the L-shaped table/desk for my design/research area! (From acrylic and IKEA coat hangers!) And I also made the desk that has the printer and fax machine on it.
I used foam-board to make the room divider. This gave me a chance to use the re-ment stationery sets, they are just adorable!

I have made the black ad white shelving unit on the left which has 4 compartments on the top and 3 shelves. I also made the black and white tall tv cabinet I started off making a simple Ikea-like shelf and then decided to make a tv unit I used thick plasticard :-)

Hee hee, this is wonderful as I can look at beautiful art without leaving home, ok :-) I decided to create an art gallery/museum in my waterside way house as I imagined the owners wil be creative types who love to be surrounded by beautiful works of art! I really enjoyed doing this. The long display table was the most fun as It is made out of "Jenga" blocks which my boys got tired of playing with! and i covered them with masking tape to create the L-shaped display for the objects on display:-)

I have always loved going to the park with my kids :-) especially when it is quiet! I have a favourite spot at my local park which is near the pond so i decided to replicate it in miniature
on the left are a few trees and there is meant to be a park bench under the tree but the bench I made was out of scale :-) the path leads to a rockery and next to the pond is a rabbit or mole mound I always smile when i see the little holes in the mound :-)

I have always loved watching property makeover programmes and I especially like 'grand designs', there was an episode where the couple building a house wanted an open plan ground floor and it was lovely so I decided to use my basement in my 12th scale house and create an open plan apartment using my lundby furniture :-)

in the house I had struggled for so long with the kitchen cos i really wanted to use my re-ment furniture and this is the effect I got with just 2 of my cupboards and the scales didn't work with the rest of the house so I am going to use 12th scale furniture and redo the kitchen and post oictures soon :-)

Under the stairs?.... we tend to keep all kinds of stuff under the stairs, maybe shoes, tools or other handy stuff, but I finally decided to put the kind of stuff I imagine to be under the stairs. The area is used by Kitty for her laundry, for the dogs to eat and sleep and Tom's bicycle as well as the stuff for washing the car! the recycling, a broken stool that Dinah said she'd mend and so much more

Recently I have become more confident to try making things myself, well mainly because I have had to cut down on my budget as I was getting carried away with my spending :(
In an effort to be a bit more sensible (lol!) I decided to build a sideboard (with opening doors) and a bed, and here they are :-)

I bought 2 sheets of white acrylic/acetate and got the seller to cut one sheet into equal squares, and the other sheet into 3 strips. I then made the sideboard.

On one of my previous trips to Ikea, (I love Ikea) I picked up 4 wooden soapdishes as I felt they would come in handy someday, as you do! and I used 3 of them to make the base for my new modern bed. I then made a mattress and used a stripy fabric to make a cover for it, with a matching pillow :-)

Finally finished the wall to floor tiling! :-) phew! for the bathroom in the new house, still needs a mirror and accessories!
not too happy with the toilet, it's an Ikea children's dolls house toilet. I put a black strip around it, not sure it works....but I am still looking for a new toilet that goes with the shower.
The sink unit is handmade :-)

I am so excited I have finished the second floor of my house ;-)

Wouldn't it be lovely to redesign a real house in an evening just the way you wanted without the hassle of builders, painters, workmen trampling everywhere.....hmmmm

Over the past year I have collected quite a bit of modern miniatures such as re-ment, reac, dolls house emporium miniatures, and lots of eBay finds! I have always had in mind a dream house to put them all in.
Yesterday I decided to decorate and furnish one of the floors of my new house (123 waterside way house) with most of the items that have been very special to me!

The art/pictures on the walls are my design, and the clock is my take on a classic designer clock!
The fish tank is my creation too, haven't been able to make the fish yet lol! I am really enjoying this :-)
The accessories are re-ment, furniture reac and dolls house emporium. The bar/table is a junk shop find not sure what it is originally meant to be but I adapted it!

The nintendo wii, games/console/wii fit are Yujin gashapon!

I finished painting the balcony rods, windows, doors on the inside and outside today and spent a while, pealing off the sticky back paper from the acetate (32 pieces!)

Today was a snow day, which really means due to the severe weather conditions most schools are shut and driving is considered hazardous! and everything grinds to a halt :\

hmmm! what a perfect day to continue working on my newest project!

I used today to finish the painting of the house yeah! well, apart from the spindles, stairs, door frames, window frames....... and um! OK a few bits and pieces but the main painting is done (in white) which means I am getting much closer to decorating and furnishing! yippee! so so exciting :-)

I recently saw a lovely modern art deco house in a village near where I live and I decided my house would be white with black finishing too! as soon as that is done I will remove the backing paper from the acetate windows... I can hardly wait!

I have always dreamed of having a modern kitchen or making one, but due to my limited DIY skills I never tried :(
A couple of days ago I decided to give it another go as I really like my Miele appliances but I never seem to find any kitchen units that are similar in height to them. I bought 2 sheets of 5mm black acrylic/acetate, and set about asking hubby to cut an L-shape for a counter top/work surface. I had grand ideas about making individual opening doors for each unit, well this is the finished product :-)
what do you think?

(did you spot that there is no sink ;-) ..) still trying to figure out how to make one haha!

This has been a lovely year, I got to know so much about miniatures, become addicted to re-ment and tried my hands at DIY. I also got to know a whole new world of miniatures and so many lovely people with a shared interest! its been lovely!

1, 2, 3 Waterside Way House from Dolls house emporium

Christmas is here! and I thought I'd start a new project!

I had bought a house from DHE some months ago and talked about it in a previous post. I had planned to build it soon, but after unpacking it I was a bit nervous so I packed it up and decided to build it after I move house! having waited for a couple of months and the house move now on hold I brought out the box and had a go at building it.

A couple of days later, and a few hair-pulling moments! I have put the house together apart from the railings on the balconies!

Fixing the spiral staircase has got to be the most tricky of all :-)

In this hobby you get inspired by so many great people and you develop so many new skills! if someone had asked me about DIY or if I was handy with tools? a year ago, I would have fallen down laughing! but here I am with a drill in my hands drilling a 1.5mm hole in the door of this house! how cool is that! ;-)

The lovely thing is, amidst all the rush of Christmas, knowing I could come home and finish putting together this house has been very calming for me, I walk in and immediately get stuck into gluing, drilling, hitting! .... brilliant :-)

As I put the finishing touches I'll post more pictures :-)

I was looking through the "Argos Home Catalogue" and found this picture.

I really like the light fittings/lamp shade, and decided to try making one for my dolls house in 1:12 scale.
I did and got carried away and so I made a table and some seats and went on to create a pseudo-oriental room :)

I have always dreamed of building my own modern dolls house, something that would be reflective of a real house with rooms in depth and many internal walls and connecting doors, and nooks and crannies, with surprises under the stairs :-)

I went to my local woodworking shop and bought a large strip of plywood and got them to cut it into specified pieces.

I was so optimistic as I went home with my pieces of wood, some sand paper and instructions on protecting myself from sawdust!

I made myself a cup of tea all the while casting side glances at the bag. I cleared an area and brought out the pieces and my previously drawn plans..... then I started sanding and preparing the wood pieces for gluing, I was a builder-in-the-making!

After about an hour, I had sanded, prepped and glued the sides to make my first.....drumroll...... 2 rooms! yes I was excited! I had to wait for a couple of hours for it to dry and then I sanded and painted them, yeah!

and yes! I'm still dreaming of building my house lol!

I have wallpapered and decorated one of them, the last picture shows the 2nd one undecorated, what do you think :-)

My 2 boys are crazy about Lego, a couple of months ago we were looking at pictures of racing cars (their other passion), that had been built using Lego and we came across Pubdolls Lego house. They were amazed that it was Lego.

Inspired by Pubdoll they started building houses in Lego, and encouraged by Mini Dork , I am posting pictures of a Lego house made by my 7 year old. He loved looking at pictures of Pubdolls Lego houses and decided to build a "tiny mini dolls house" (his words) he has made a balcony on the back too :-) which is his own version of her houses' balcony, that he liked ;-)

He wanted to make a bigger house but ran out of white bricks so he made it smaller :-)

I had a recent cleaning and sorting session, and decided to look through all the lundby stuff I had acquired. I wanted to make sure I displayed my favourite bits in the house, this involved rearranging some rooms and this is the result :-)

I got the orange stripy armchair broken, without a base in a job lot and I decided to make a silver base for it, using a bratz plastic chair base and some foil insulation tape, seems ok :-)

I would like to retain the original wallpaper, but because of the watermarks, I may have to put up new wallpaper or maybe paint it :(

I was looking through some old pictures, and I came across pictures of my 1st dolls house. I was really surprised at how much has changed in the past year!

My first house for my dolls was a 3 storey victorian style house built from a kit. My other half helped me build the structure and left me to do the exciting bit, which was the painting and decorating. I had such fun picking items for it, although I longed for modern items I couldn't find any!

I wanted to use my new sofa in a scene and I had 2 kitchen stools that had the same chrome effect! so I put them together! I really like the cute yellow telephone, which is a vintage Lundby/Caroline's home phone.

Inspired by a "pack of tissues" ;-)

I bought a cute pack of pocket tissues from Ikea, and as i took one out of the pack, it looked too cute to use, with lovely bold coloured stripes so I thought hmmm what if it could be used for something else, where its beauty can be admired,

... and here it is, what do you think? :-)

I used it as a rug :-) , its a small rug folded in the first picture, then I opened it out for a carpet effect!

She forgot to let them know she had quit drinking! but as is customary everyone brought a bottle! Well that's how its done isn't it!

If you are off to a social occasion/dinner party or a grown-ups birthday party, you don't take a present unless you are good friends and you know exactly what your friend would like, I could consider a lovely miniature flower arrangement a good gift, or perhaps a very cute re-ment panda! or even a coveted piece of furniture from a top miniaturist! and my "friend" could absolutely dislike it! or find it very amusing! instead its so much easier to "bring a bottle" sorry I'm rambling now!

All her friends brought a bottle and Dinah has ended up with a crate of wine and she's not sure what to do

Tell her friends she has quit drinking! and end up being a "spoil sport"? or go with the flow and say nothing!

With winter on its way, Dinah decided to do some dusting and cleaning, and she wanted to change the look of her sitting room...out with the old... in with the new... well she hadn't really bought anything new, but she had found a matching pine shelving unit that went beautifully with the rest of her furnishings! and it was the perfect reason to do some rearranging :)

"It looks better" she thought "having all the shelving and cabinets forming a semi-circle!" and what better way to introduce some more colour to the room than with her new "ikea" rug! and some more flowers :-)

She also put up wallpaper, as she preferred to have all the walls the same! makes a change from how her sitting room looked before !

Yes Dinah did what i would have loved to do she changed the layout of her house by moving her sitting room to her dining room, and placing a guest room where her sitting room used to be :-)

I bought a set of white wire furniture a couple of months ago, to use for a garden scene, and didn't get round to it. Since I don't have a conservatory or a garden for my dolls, I wasn't sure how I was going to use them.

I finally gave up and decided to sell them, so I brought them out of "my box of stuff" yesterday, to take pictures of them. In the midst of all the hustle and bustle today, I'd forgotten about them, then this evening while I was rushing around I had a lovely thought!

Wouldn't it be nice to go on holiday for a few days, just to get refreshed....well since I can't do that now :-) I decided to create a scene to reflect, the type of place I'd like to go to.

I would love somewhere homely, yet quiet!

With my eyes closed I could see it......pretty, feminine.......To be able to walk into the reception area and for it to feel cosy, almost like someone else's house and not a hotel ....mmmmmm

The lovely fragrance of the numerous flowers would fill the air!...and the scent of freshly brewed coffeee mmmmm or maybe tea :) and cookies haha! cool

I remembered the white wire furniture and decided to use it, and here's the result. I think the white wire furniture works beautifully :-) who would have thought!

The red and white tulips are a gift from my sister and the vases they are in are made by me from stuff around the house :)

Some weeks ago on an earlier post I talked about how I was confused about how to best use the hallways in my "Mayfair mansion", then 2 days ago, I had this crazy idea!

what if I laid down new flooring and put in a new kitchen to make the hallway a kitchen area, a bit cramped, but I like it :)

needs some accessories on the shelf on the side

Lily is expecting her friends over for dinner!
Phew! she has finally got her place ready and she has had a tiring day as she had to make 4 different dinners as her friends all like different things!
At least everyone likes salad, she hopes, and "smiles to herself" as she has made a large plate of salad :)

I watch Marie and Lily argue in the bathroom! and its over bathroom accessories...can a girl have too many accessories? the answer is yes and no! Lily says ..no! you can never have enough medicines and first aid stuff! well, she is not one for make-up:) and Marie feels there is no more space in the bathroom and she does not want another cabinet!

I always wondered what to do with the hallways in my Mayfair mansion and I was torn between having it as a hallway with the stairs and a few accessories, or removing the stairs and using it as a room. I have compromised and created a play room/area on the top floor. I don't have any child dolls for the scene :)

I have used re-ment from the beauty storage furniture collection, and the daily household living collections, and the coloring books and pens are an eBay find!

When the children bring home plants from school, I always seem to kill them after a while, I give them too much or too little water!

I have heard of 'repotting' the plants to the garden, but by the time I remember, the plants are long gone :) I have always loved the beauty of nature, so when I found this shelf at a local vintage shop, I thought I could use it to display a little plant collection.

This way I know they'll always be beautiful:)

The wellies are re-ment, the cushions are handmade.

In a previous post I mentioned how one of the rooms in my lundby house was a "junk room" because it had so much stuff in it and I wasn't sure what to do with it, then I bought the record player/ entertainment unit, and hey presto! music room with my adorable reac chair :)

The wooden shelving unit was an ebay find, and I really like it :)

Ok! I'd had my eye on a dolls house from the dolls house emporium for a while now, but I hesitated as I could not justify moving my sofa to the garden to make space for it :) haha! but I finally gave in and bought it. Yes I bought the 1,2,3 waterside way kit! I'd been dreaming about! and its arrived!

Now I look at all the pieces, in the boxes, and I can't help but wonder if this is too much to do now! so I have checked the pieces as you do, and boxed it back up. I will get to it soon when I am feeling braver, although I can't stop thinking of all the great scenes and rooms I can create, and what I could do on the balconies ;-).

So in anticipation of the job of building this dolls house I have set this room.

I think about all the wonderful possibilities and all the things I will try do to right this time, like painting with a roller instead of a paintbrush! or using wallpaper only if it significantly adds to the design, as I find wallpapering stressful, as bubbles seem to pop up from nowhere :), and planning ahead but still taking the time to enjoy every aspect of the process of creating my mini world:)

so I relax with a glass of wine and contemplate ...hmmmmmmm

Ok! this is the low down so far!

I've just been on the phone to Karen, she says a fax is coming through to the department,
"and there are going to be big changes as the new merger has resulted in some job losses and pay cuts!"
well the news spread like wild fire!

It was 5:35 and everyone was off to "the blue bird" for a drink,
I was sitting at my desk with the confidence of one who is certain that all the buzz has nothing to do with me!

Well I could see Dee and the rest around the fax machine talking in hushed tones about what was going to happen! I smiled to myself :)

and then, there was a sudden silence! I heard a gasp! and turned and they were all looking at me.........

Noooooooooooooooo! IT CAN'T BE!!!!!! there must be some mistake.... I had heard from a " most reliable" source.....

The room on the left of the basement is my junk room haven't done anything in it! I had 3 kitchen sets and couldn't decide which one I liked best so I put all in crazy I know!, my reasoning is I could have my friends over for a cooking party, and hey presto evryone has a hob to cook on! smart eh! :) heehee

I had some ikea furniture, and I had tried spray painting some of them, and I couldn't get a nice even finish, so I decided not to spray paint the sofa set, better safe than sorry:)

This is a lounge area next to my re-ment kitchen, I used the blue ikea sofa set and re-ment from the beauty storage set.

On the shelves in the background are re-ment from the Is Dinner ready? Mum, Fun Meals and Kawaii kitchen Sets!

The rug and orange cushions on the sofas are also ikea! the pink cushions were bought, as my attempt at handmaking cushions, resulted in a mess :)

Puchi petite Tableware collection.

I bought 2 sets from this collection,
#10 Old Fashion tableware and #13 Clear apple set!
I was going to buy the full boxed set of 13, but I haven't found one in a sealed box, yet :)

I placed them on a dolls house emporium shelf, I really like the glasses on the 4th shelf, they have a picture of bambi and thumper from disney?! and come in 6 beautiful colours!
The clear apple set is my favourite in the collection, too cute!

I thought I'd make a shed for my friends birthday, this sunday.

I used brick wall paper to cover the outside and silver spray paint for the roof, I added all the accessories mostly ebay, and local dolls shop finds, some handmade :-) the radio is lil' bratz!

The finished shed :-)

I made sure to make it messy and 'lived in' including some split paint on the floor as an added touch!

A day in the life of a re-ment addict :-)

my pop'n kitchen megahouse re-ment box has arrived! I tried really hard to leave it in the box! I opened the large box and took out the small boxes! then I couldn't help myself I had to open the small boxes to see all the cute little bits and then I put them back in the boxes and into the large box... a very enjoyable half an hour of my day! after which I relaxed with a cup of tea! lol!

I recently got an ikea expedit shelf made by "Annina" (it is the brown shelving unit at the back)and I wanted to create an office, in a room in my doll house formally known as "the junk room". After relocating all the forgotten items, I made an office that was imspired by 2 places I'd worked at.. and I took the 2 best parts! I used re-ment from the beauty storage furniture set and the girls in the city set.

Summer holidays!

I took the children to the V&A - Museum of childhood! as they looked at the different games and toys I was itching to drag them to the home section which houses the musuems doll house collection, I had been there once with a friend, and enjoyed it, especially seeing how the dolls houses were designed and built to reflect the life, and the people at that time.

I got to see a triang house which I liked, because of its windows and cubic design.

This time I wanted to see a specific house the kaleidoscope house!, as I had been doing some research on it. I tried not to rush the children as they were having so much fun. when we climbed the stairs to the home section, there was a small "Roald Dahl" exhibition which I made sure they enjoyed at "flying speed" lol! and then in awe as we turned a corner, I spotted this awesome house

The plaque read "Shroeder house..."? I didn't have my camera just my phone so I took the pictures below!

I love it! and I want one just like it!

In the same display case as the Shroeder house and the triang house was the house I had gone to see..... the kaleidoscope house... beautiful!

I have always loved seeing pictures and blogs of the Kaleidoscope house and it is one of my favourite houses, and I'd love to own one, but for now this is the closest I have been to one :)

The kitchen furniture are ikea 1:12 and rement kitchen 1:6 the kitchen sofa/chair set is vintage bodo hennig, the white shelf is from the dolls house emporium modern collection! and was a present! which I really like! the first picture at the top left corner, in the collage shows the basement of my dolls house with both kitchens in it! I just wanted to unpack the sets and display them all to photograph, I'm going to enjoy deciding what goes where as I go along :-)
